CONFIDENCE
The following is an excerpt from Webster’s dictionary‘s definition of Confidence:
(1) full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability or a person or thing
(2) Belief in oneself and one’s powers or abilities
As Martial Artists we always strive to develop and increase our self-confidence. We do this primarily for our own benefit, so we can lead more productive and more secure lives. Obviously, a person with a high degree of confidence doesn’t agitate easily. Such a person can use this confidence as a tool to overcome the obstacles that come up naturally in everyday life.
As a teacher/instructor, confidence is a great tool. Such a person who exudes confidence, will inspire those under him or her to follow his/her lead. Who would want to follow a leader who doesn’t show that he believes in himself? Or herself? Who would take advice from such a teacher or an instructor?
The confidence we show will inspire those around us. If you have ever read about any of the world’s most respected leaders, you’ll be sure to find that their confidence in themselves helped them achieve their goals. Let’s use it to attain ours!
