Don’t make things harder
There are few things harder than stepping out in front of a group of people and talking. It is similar to walking up to your grandmother with disappointing news. There no good way of starting the conversation. Once the conversation is going - it doesn’t seem so hard, but breaking that ice turns strong, confident people into cowards!
With that thought in mind, do not make things harder on yourself.
Yes, we all want to challenge ourselves for the sake of self-improvement, and nothing we are going to do is perfect. All of it is a work-in-progress, even on the best of days. However, it is important to remember what our first goal is when standing up in front of a group of people.
INSPIRATION
Everything a teacher, coach, leader or anyone in a position of authority can accomplish comes down to inspiration. Not one of them can MAKE anyone do anything. What we can do is instill inspiration to help others achieve their goals. The best way to inspire people to achieve their goals? Be confident in yourself!
More specifically, demonstrate confidence to the group you are working with.
Easier said than done, obviously, but when you are in front of a group of people - it is important to remember what the primary goal is.
Do we always want to improve ourselves? Yes, without that progress the group’s progress will also suffer.
Do we want continually educate and offer corrective guidance to the people we are in charge of? Yes, without that - bad habits will only reinforce themselves.
All of these things are true, but nothing can compete with what can be accomplished with an inspired student who is training and figuring things out on their own. Keeping things as simple as possible during a presentation will allow us to be as confident as we can be and, in turn, inspire that confidence in others.
